2010 Annual Giving

The following letter from President Tilghman to Warren McCabe acknowledges 1952's part in achieving the outstanding results of Princeton's Annual Giving Campaigh.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to you for your part in achieving such a spectacular outcome in the 2009-10 Annual Giving campaign. The $48.6 million that was raised through your efforts is an outstanding accomplishment, and especially in this difficult economic climate. The increase in overall participation to 60.8 percent, the first time we have achieved 60 percent or above in ten years, demonstrates a wonderful level of support for Princeton's commitment to excellence.

Gifts to Annual Giving are absolutely critical to the success of our educational mission. These unrestricted funds allow Princeton to continue to meet the full financial need of students, and to sustaiin and enhance opportunities for learning and discovery of the highest quality.

You have my deepest appreciation for your tremendous work and spirit that made this year's remarkable results possible. I hope you will take special satisfaction in knowing that your efforts make an important difference in the lives of Princeton's exceptional students.

With all best wishes from campus,
                                                                                                      Sincerely,

                                                                          Shirley M. Tilghman

1952 raised $520,869 - fifth among all classes not holding a major reunion. Our participation rate was 76.2%, second among all post- WWII non-major reunion classes. Congratulations to Don Malehorn, Joe Bolster and Ed Masinter as well as Warren McCabe for their successful efforts.

2009 Annual Giving

The Class of '52 finished the Annual Giving year with 76.1% participation -- 395 members of a Class roll of 519 donated; this compares very favorably to the overall alumni participation rate of 57.7%. The Class also registered its best-ever off-year dollar result in its estimable AG history: $598,760, achieved in arduous economic circumstances.

2008 Annual Giving

The letter below from Paul Raeder of the Annual Giving office tells the story of another excellent year Annual Giving for '52, a wonderful tribute to our late classmate and longtime AG booster Jay Sherrerd and a recognition of the role John Emery has paid for so many years.
Don Malehorn's team of Ed Masinter and Barry Loper, ably assisted by Joe Bolster,  had a key role in our success.  Even though our class roll inevitably shrinks from year to year, Paul notes that our contribution was the highest for a non-major reunion year in the Class's history - and our participation rate, thanks to Barry Loper and the teams of "swatters and solicitors," was 77.6 percent, third highest among post-World War II classes and major evidence of the relationship the Class of '52 continues to have with alma mater.
                                                                                                    July 10, 2008

To:  Class of  '52 Swatters and Solicitors --

          Congratulations, Gentlemen!

The 2007/2008 Annual Giving Campaign has once again gone well beyond all expectations!

You and the thousands of AG volunteers have helped raise $54,109,304 -- the highest amount ever in Princeton history!  This is 10% more than last year -- $49.0 million -- and well over the goal!  Overall participation increased again this year to 59.2% from the most alumni ever -- the envy of every other college in the country.

'52 did outstandingly once again, too, thanks to the efforts of you, the Swat Captains and Solicitors, by writing, calling, and probably cajoling your classmates to urge them to contribute.  Under the able leadership team of Don Malehorn, Joe Bolster, Barry Loper, Ed Masinter, and, of course, the great Jay Sherrerd, you raised $517,775 -- way above the dollar goal and the highest amount for a non-major year in '52 history!  WOW!!

Participation, in which Barry has done a great job building on John Emery's foundation, came in at 77.6% of the Class -- the third highest of all post WWII classes this year. (And beating out '51 by 0.6%!!)  Congratulations!

A list of all donors is attached.  Thank you again for making this such a great year for your Class and for all of us at Princeton -- the "Best Old Place of All."

A locomotive cheer to you all in '52!  Onward to AG 2008-2009 and your 57th Reunion AG campaign!

Best regards, Paul

Annual Giving for 2005-06

Following is a message to the Class's AG SWAT Team from the University's Office of Annual Giving - with congratulations to be shared for ALL of those in the Class who contributed to the campaign.

          Congratulations, Gentlemen!
The 2005/2006 Annual Giving Campaign has gone where no Princeton campaign has gone before!
You and the thousands of AG volunteers have helped raise $40,408,142 -- the highest amount ever in Princeton history! $3.5 million more than last year -- way over the goal! Overall participation totaled 58.2% from the most alumni ever -- the envy of every other college in the country.
'52 did outstandingly once again, too, thanks to your efforts writing, calling, and probably cajoling your classmates to urge them to contribute. Under the able leadership of Don Malehorn, Joe Bolster, Dick Pivirotto, John Emery and Jay Sherrerd, you raised $450,504. This is very close to the Class of '52 record of $467K raised in 2001 for a non-major reunion year -- congratulations!
Participation came in at 80.7% of the class -- the second best participation ever for a '52 non-major.  (In 2000, it was 80.9%.)  Only two Princeton classes had higher participation this year, and you tied with a third.  What a year for the Great Class of '52!
Thank you again for making this such an exceptional year for your Class and for all of us at Princeton -- the "Best Old Place of All."
A locomotive cheer to you all in '52! Onward to AG 2006-2007 and your 55th campaign next year!

Best regards,
Paul
