The Dan'l Webster Inn and Spa in Sandwich, MA was our headquarters and provided all accommodations and amenities for this mini-reunion. The Inn was first built in 1692, burned down in 1971, and rebuilt with a wine cellar equal to the finest in New England and the dining menu has developed a Classic American Cuisine for which the restaurant has received national recognition every year.

The Mini got off to a great start with a Welcoming Cocktail Hour on Sunday evening for all classmates and wives, including Chuck and Sally Carpenter who joined us for Sunday night dinner.

After a Monday morning buffet breakfast we boarded a special party bus to the Wing Family Fort House for a tour by the caretaker, Dave Wheelock. The Wing Fort House is the oldest house in New England, owned and occupied by the family of Wing since it was built in 1641. During the previous week the Wing Family of America Inc. had celebrated its National Reunion at the Fort House together with the 375th annual celebration of the founding of the town of Sandwich, the oldest town on Cape Cod. Dave Smith's wife, Lois Wing Smith, is a member of the Wing organization and editor of its annual publication "The Owl". ( Our Wing Lineage).

We enjoyed lunch at "Seafood Sam's" where everyone ordered their favorite seafood before visiting the Sandwich Glass Museum and the 100 acre Heritage Museum and Gardens. Our first day ended with cocktails and dinner at the Pilot House located near the Coast Guard Headquarters and Cape Cod Canal.

Tuesday began with another breakfast buffet at the Dan'l Webster Inn followed by a bus trip to Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Our guide, a native Wampanoag Indian, well versed in history, led us to a typical native Indian village home site and then to a 17th century English village. We served ourselves to a special Thanksgiving Day lunch before leaving Plimouth Plantation. Our next stop was Plymouth harbor where we boarded the Mayflower II, one of the world's oldest wooden vessels that still sails today. After viewing Plymouth Rock and taking pictures, we returned to the Dan'l Webster Inn in time to don our orange and black reunion jackets for '52 Class dinner. Our speaker of the evening was Bill Daley, a Director of the Town of Sandwich's 375 Year Celebration Committee and a Trustee of the Sandwich Glass Museum. He outlined the role that Sandwich and its citizens played in the Civil War, and read many interesting excerpts from letters written by soldiers from Sandwich about the events they experienced during their service in the war.

Our "52 Sandwich mini-reunion ended on Wednesday morning, June 18th with a "Going Away Buffet Breakfast at the Dan'l Webster Inn. We were blessed with four days of gorgeous sunny coastal weather, enjoyed by everyone. Our Class President, Put Brodsky, was very helpful in developing the schedule for this Mini but was unable to attend due to the graduation of his grandchildren on the same weekend. Put's wife grew up in Sandwich and her home is now a Bed and Breakfast.
